Default Home building and renovating in New England

Have you built your own home before? Maybe you've been involved in renovations. Consider we are on the outside looking in. How is it done, and done right? What pitfalls do we be need to avoid? What shortcuts can we take? What can you tell us about costs, labor, materials, contractors, estimates, time-frame, etc? Take us through the process.

Hi Minuteman,

We can only give you a rough cost of material , labour, time frame etc. It depends on most occassions all your estimates exceeds many times. You just can plan based on someonelse procedure. Only when you start building you eill know the real difficulties involved in it.

Thanks,

live in southern Maine, and I have noticed an odd phenomenon with some of the older homes here. Often, I see a federal style home with an attached cape style home. When I was house hunting, I actually had the opportunity to look at one of these homes up-close. Apparently, the federal side was built first, and the cape side was added about thirty years later. Does anyone know the reason behind this....?

Could it have been out of necessity? Maybe it was just an easy expansion

Too many small-group members believe that "doing Bible study" is primarily an intellectual experience. That's not the case—or it shouldn't be the case. Acquiring new information is good, especially when that information has to do with God and his Word, but the experience of learning something new in a small group should be the first step on a long journey toward transformation. And the second step on that journey should be application.

Your best bet is to contact a manufactured home dealer or a contractor- either will have this information.
